读书笔记---Helen Sloane's Diary

I finished Jeff Lucas' Helen Sloane's Diary with my one week tea breaks and lunch breaks, completely missed all the gossips amongst colleagues. All is worthy for a book that speaks comfort and echoes my emotion and spirit. It made me laugh and cry.

Helen is a 27 year old single social worker. She is one of the group leaders for a church . She hang out with some faithful Christian friends but can't agree with them at all time. (Very similar settings like me, apart from being pure English.) This book is her very personal diary which she only wrote for herself. What a Christian is thinking?? Secretly, honestly.

I found very much related to her story. Most of her struggle actually happen to me as well. I hope they do to others. I feel so much better after reading it. Wow, I am not the only weird one. We all have problems about emotions, clients, church people and singlehood.

In the book, Helen appear to be quite a traditional person who hang out a lot with her charismatic Christian friend.... She loves her job but often got frustrated by difficult clients. She also wonders into imagination at sermons. She also can't accept some Christians at church and feel hard to love them. She also experiences lost and grief and found hard to pray after that.

I thank God for this book as it comforted me and assured me in many ways. There were little theology teaching but I learned a looooooooot from it. I realise that we all need to be cleaned by Jesus and it is not done by ourselves. I learned that Christians sometimes don't click and that's okay. The most important thing is, changing a person is a long procedure. Strangely, God does it slowly. We are all quite ugly at midnight, however, God still loves us and holds us..

It is probably a good idea to write a brutally truthful diary myself....next year. See what will happen.

(This book is also a good laugh, full of Jeff lucas' style jokes. It is full of details of British town life. I realise how 'British' I have become....)
