A movie of the fall became the best on my 2005 movie list, The Weather Man by Nicholas Cage. I don't know how to describe this movie. It's a episode of a middle-age man's life but it's more than that. It seems more like a life lesson. Man can never win in life.
Dave, the weather broadcaster, tried his best to figure out everything. But, he failed his ex-wife. She married another man. He failed his father's respect. Father died of cancer. He nearly failed his kids. They are having troubles everyday.
However, to be honest, I respect Dave. He may failed in many aspects of life. But he did his best. He dreams of the positive side of life and he works on it. He didn't give up when the winter storm came in his life. He is a man.
Thought after the movie: How can we define 'work on something' or 'ask for something'?
Dave worked on his relationship with his wife and father and he failed them all.
Dave worked on the problems of his kids and he helped them in some sense.
Dave worked on his job application and he got it eventually.
So, there is something we can never 'work out', like love and life. But, We shall make effort in many aspects of life. We should. By working on it, by walking with someone, our hearts are exposed to them. Yes, we can never win in life. But, shall we give up hoping, give up dreaming and even give up asking?? If so, the chance we survive the storm would be reduced to minimum.
Best scenario in the movie: Dave buying clothes for his daughter. He applaused for her when she walked out of the dressing room. I was touched. He is a real father.
